East Village Artists...

I created East Village Artists because I saw a lack of that D.I.Y. spirit that was once synonymous with the East Village.  Creating art where you are with what you have.  While attending countless school events for my own child, I also noticed so many bright kids were unable to speak in front of an audience.   During our 12-weeks together, I teach kids how to move through self-consciousness and how to connect with the audience and their fellow performers.  Students gain confidence by doing.  Our final class of the semester is an informal performance where they present their original work.

A little about me...    Creating theater with my friends was the best time of my childhood.  After graduating from NYU, I worked in the vibrant Off-Off Broadway theater world of the 1990s and 2000s. Two of my plays were produced in New York, "Traveling Companions" at Primary Stages and "The Game" at The Mint .  I was the Managing Director for the awarding-winning Barrow Group theater company and I wrote for Theatermania.com. Additionally, I've directed theater including "The Vagina Monologues" at the Moss Theater at 440 Lafayette. But my favorite creative project has been my 14-year-old daughter, Sabena.
